Wootton Creek - Oyster Fishery

In a report by the Local Government Board 1894-95 records that 'just seaward of Wootton Mill, [there are]some half a dozen small oyster pits belonging to local fishermen.' The report also includes reference to some oyster pits at Fishbourne used by local fishermen.
Reports in the IW County Press in 1905 record that there was a proposal for an Oyster Fishery in Wootton Creek and an application was made to the Board of Trade by the Wootton Oyster Company.
However, as a result of local objections the application was withdrawn.
