Palace Cinema, Freshwater

From Wightpedia

Originally built, pre 1920, as the Palace Theatre was on School Green Road, Freshwater, Isle of Wight.

In 1929 the Palace Theatre was destroyed by fire[1] but was speedily rebuilt and reopened later that year 'equipped for cinema and variety' - the proprietors were Cecil Elgar and W. G. Barnard[2].

In 1936 the cinema was operated by Isle of Wight Theatres, Ltd[3].

Following the opening of the Regent Cinema on the opposite side of the road, the venue seems to have concentrated on variety and public meetings etc.

It closed following a fire and was demolished circa early 1960's.

In more recent times, the site has been (2018) Hong Kong Express - (2019) Petesaria .
