Copse Mead Nature Reserve, Lake

From Wightpedia

The Copse Mead Nature Reserve, located off Cemetery Road, Lake, is on land leased from the Isle of Wight Council by Wight Nature 2007, in 2021 the management of the land was handed back to the IW Council, and in 2022 it joined the Gift to Nature portfolio.

The land is part of an area purchased in the 1950's to enlarge to neighbouring Shanklin Cemetery.

Copse Mead is one of the few green spaces left with public access in Lake. It has evolved into a wonderful habitat for a wide range of species, some of which are endangered.

In the spring there are wild daffodils, bluebells, cherry-plum blossom, and in the summertime pipistrelle bats and many species of butterflies, moths, wild flowers and grasses.
