Wyndham Cottle Almshouses

Dr (Ernest) Wyndham Cottle inherited Ningwood Manor House, Isle of Wight from his uncle, Thomas Cottle, previously a vicar of Shalfleet, in 1895.

On Wyndham's death in 1919, he made several bequests to the local community - one being the Wyndham Cottle Almshouses in Warlands Lane, Ningwood.

These consist of a pair of two cottages designed by local architect John Curtis Millgate and constructed 1922/23 on land belonging to Dr Cottle.

The houses are (2020) administrated by the Wyndham Cottle Almshouses charity whose objects are:

  • Almshouses for persons who are in need, hardship or distress; and are aged 55 years or above, and
  • For the benefit of the Almspeople
