St Lawrence Old Church
From Wightpedia
St Lawrence Old Church stands on Seven Sisters Road and is Grade II* listed[1].
The church dates from the very late 12th century although various additions (south porch, bell cote and chancel) were made during the 19th century. Its function as a parish church was taken over by the new St Lawrence Church in 1878.
The church was restored 1926/27 by local architect Percy Stone.
To the west of the old church is the St Lawrence Peace Garden with a memorial to HMCS Alberni, a Royal Canadian Navy Corvette which sunk on 21st August 1944 with the lose of 59 sailors after being torpedoed in the English Channel.
