St John's Church, Rookley

St John's Church, Rookley was an iron-church in the parish of Arreton built in 1886 and was attached to St George's Church there. The land was provided by Mr. Richard Woodward, situated between his house, Highwood, and Highwood-lane corner; he also paid for the foundations to be laid. Mr. King, builder of Blackwater, built and fitted out the church.[1]

The church closed sometime in the 1960's and the building, which has lost its bell cowl which would originally have sat atop the roof, and adjacent land is now (2023) used as a builder's yard.
