The 'early' brick works at Rookley - 1908

Maps show two brick works at Rookley, this early map (1908) shows a brick works located behind the cottages on Highwood Lane.

The 1898 and 1911 Kelly's Street Directories record Richard Woodward as brick maker, Highwood, Rookley.

Between the wars, the 'early' brick works closed down and a new works was established to the east, on the other side of the road.

The new works was operated by member of the Pritchett family and continued until 1974 when it closed. The site was then used for various purposes including car breaking.

The site has now been developed as an industrial estate with the main access road 'Pritchetts Way', reflecting the owners of the previous brick works.
