East Cowes, Old Road milestone

Just along from the old North Lodge of East Cowes Castle on Old Road, East Cowes, Isle of Wight, towards the sea stands this old milestone.
The original inscription is unreadable but a plate attached to the top bears the following:
MILESTONE
ORIGINAL INSCRIPTION 5 MILES NEWPORT |
The 1898 Ordinance Survey map shows the position on Old Newport Road, as it was known in those days.
