Miss Brigstocke

Mary Harriette Player Brigstocke was the daughter of Capt. Thomas Brigstocke and Elizabeth Player born 1824 and died 1904. During her life, Miss Brigstocke was a benefactor to the residents of Ryde, as well as her involvement with the family's chapel, St Thomas', which she inherited, she supported various local sports and athletic clubs as well as contributing to animal welfare.

Some of her lifetime gifts to Ryde can still be seen by the Almshouses in Player Street (1891), the house trough at Swanmore Road/ West Street junction (1898), and Simeon Street Recreation Ground which she purchased for the town (1901).
