Godshill Telephone System

From Wightpedia

The National Telephone Co. Ltd leased Godshill Telephone Exchange.

Godshill was one of the first exchanges on the Island to be fitted with an automatic system in 1937[1].

In 1984 a new electronic telephone exchange replaced the existing exchange on School Road, Godshill[2]. The exchange was a 1000 line GEC exchange which represented an investment of some £350,000 and replaced the previous electro-mechanical equipment[3].

A new digital telephone exchange was introduced to Godshill in 1993; at the time some 700 users were connected to the exchange[4].
