Egypt Esplanade, Cowes

Egypt Esplanade at Cowes, Isle of Wight was built by the then West Cowes Local Board of Health and opened in 1894.

The area has been known as 'Egypt' since the 16th century, possibly the name being being derived from a settlement of gypsies (then called 'Egyptians') who lived then in the area.
