The Primitive Methodist Chapel and Schoolroom on Beckford Road was built in 1889, replacing a chapel on Market Hill which the congregation had outgrown[1]. The Schoolroom opened in April 1889[2], and the Chapel in June 1889.

The architect for the new chapel and schoolroom was Mr. S. E. Prince, of West Cowes, and the builders were Messrs. C. and J. Thomas and Son, of West Cowes. Mr. Tarrant was the foreman of the works.[1]

In 1940 the County Education Committee acquired the 'former Methodist Chapel' for use as a library for Cowes.[3]
