Chillerton Telephone system

From Wightpedia

For many years a public call office and manual switchboard were located in the local post office run by the Niblett family at Sheepwash Cottage, The Green, Chillerton, Isle of Wight. At one time there were just two private telephones installed in the village, one in the Westmore family house and the other at Gatcombe House, the home of Sir Charles Seely.[1]

In August 1953, a new automatic telephone exchange, located near Sheat, replaced the manual switchboard.[2]
