Shanklin, Church Road, milestone

Just around the corner from Shanklin Old Church, (St. Blasius's), on the road to Ventnor, Isle of Wight, stands this stone without a readable inscription.
However the 1898 Ordinance Survey map identifies a milestone in this position marked 'Ryde 9 miles.' As a point of 'interest', the church at that time was St. John's Church.
